Birth of the Union

In September of 2005 one hundred members of the International Tang Soo Do Federation and the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation of Great Britain gathered in Manchester for an afternoon of training, knowledge sharing and friendship. This gathering had come about as the result of an earlier alliance of like minded Tang Soo Do Instructors whose aim was to counteract some of the 'Ryu Pa' that had occurred within the art in Great Britain. Subjects for instruction were chosen for their curriculum neutral status. Those subjects included quarter staff, sweeps and knife defense.

On Sunday the 4th of February 2007 Chief Instructors and Masters from six Tang Soo Do federations met at the 'ORO' in 'Henley in Arden' to discuss expanding The Tang Soo Do Union.
The unique nature of that meeting is a pivotal point in the growth of The Tang Soo Do Union. For fifteen senior Tang Soo Do Instructors (one of whom was the first British citizen to obtain Dan certification in Tang Soo Do) to meet with no agenda beyond the creation of a contact group that could open training/competing opportunities for members is we believe, unprecedented in the UK.
I would like to thank;
Master Brian Edmondson of the Tiger Gym Tang Soo Do,
Master Wynford Williams of the International Tang Soo Do Federation,
Master Vivian Thomas of the Bridgend Martial Arts Academy,
Master Robert Salter of the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation of Great Britain,
Master John Trudgill of the Traditional Tang Soo Do Federation, and
Master David Powell of the World Traditional Tang Soo Do Federation,
for endorsing their groups participation in this altruistic endeavor.

"We will all receive to the degree that we give."

NB; 'Ryu Pa' is a Korean term that loosely translates as 'water runs down hill divided.'
The term 'Ryu Pa' is analogous to the obstacles that divide the family of Tang Soo Do
 practitioners.
Welcome

On behalf of all member Instructors I hope that this message finds you and your families in the best of health and spirits.

The purpose of The Tang Soo Do Union is a simple one, to engage in cross Federation activities for the furthering of opportunities for members.
To this end we organize events such as seminars and tournaments in Britain and abroad to encourage interaction between traditional Tang Soo Do bodies of Moo Duk Kwan lineage.

The first of these events for 2007 was a 'Training with the Masters Seminar' hosted by Master Kemp of the Tiger Gym.  This fantastic seminar held on Sunday the 24th of June, in Coventry, was attended by over 300 students 100 Dans over 30 Masters
